Sustainability Challenge

The Sustainability Challenge Game

The Sustainability Challenge is a world class interactive and engaging training tool that engages business, government and community to address complex issues such as community sustainability, behaviour change and how to reduce emissions in a fun, stimulating, interactive and engaging way… that inspires ecoChampions and community sceptics alike to develop pragmatic sustainability actions and outcomes that enhance long term value and growth.

This innovative educational tool has been designed based on years of experience in workplace training. The Challenge methodology, launched 3 years ago in Australia is now being used around the world to raise awareness, build knowledge and capability, audit priority issues and identify practical steps for participants and organizations to take to improve their behaviours.

The Sustainability Challenge includes a library of content written by a range of subject matter experts. It is highly flexible and customisable to your needs, and can easily be adapted to create the most relevant and engaging learning experience for your workshop participants. Sessions can be highly focused on particular issues, or can take a broader view of the subject and aim to raise general awareness around a few key points.

Objectives

The Sustainability Challenge:

•  Provides a unique methodology for sensitising and educating people about all aspects of sustainability: economic, environmental and social.

•  Builds the ability of participants to think sustainably - to incorporate sustainability into their daily decision making

•  Gives participants an understanding of sustainability both in the broader national/global context, as well as at the local community level, and an appreciation of how the two are linked.

•  Enables communities to assess whether they are achieving their sustainability objectives

Process

•  Teams compete in a relaxed and fun environment to resolve scenarios about a vast range of sustainability issues: energy, waste, climate change, community engagement.

•  Participants are challenged to explore their attitudes and knowledge base about sustainability issues which they typically face and are highly relevant to them, and then to determine how they should best be handled.

•  As each issue is raised, participants are then given insight into how this issue affects them at the local level by examining information about how well their community is performing on that issue, and what is being done to tackle it.

•  After a period of competition and challenge, teams vote for the sustainability issues requiring priority attention in their community and then explore ideas to address the issues more effectively – both at the community and at the individual level.
