What is FWR?
We've often been asked, “what does the FWR stand for?” When the business formed in 2009, the “FWR” stemmed from Four Walls and a Roof, one of the original two trading names. However, FWR is increasingly coming to stand for what we do, how we do it, and what it means.
Focus, Willingness, Resilience.
Focus
Our focus is on assisting our clients to navigate their way through a soup of information and misinformation on sustainability. We call it the “Green Maze”, but for our clients, working out what sustainability means for them can be a costly and difficult distraction from their core business. We work with clients to understand what they do, who they do it for, and how they do it. Then we look to identify opportunities for them to be a stronger, smarter and more sustainable business, in light of incentives, regulations, measuring performance, and reporting what they have achieved.
Willingness
Our clients include developers, resource companies, government agencies, businesses and communities that have recognised that sustainability represents not an imposition, but an opportunity, and have the willingness to review how they perform to take advantage of those opportunities. If efficient and responsible behavior saves money, encourages investment and creates good news, then it isn't a cost. Our clients are willing to embrace the opportunity of sustainability, and all the benefits that accrue.
Resilience
Sustainability is as much about resilience as it is about responsibility. Businesses, governments and communities are increasingly aware of risk – risks like climate change, the economy, safe communities, staff turnover, attracting and maintaining customers, profit, loss, regulation and reporting. Sustainability, which looks critically at issues of people, planet, and profit, provides a solid and proven framework for identifying, assessing, and developing strategy to manage risk. As we all know – if you can successfully manage risk in the short, medium and long term, you will increase your resilience to threats.

Our Background?
FWR Group Pty. Ltd. came from the collaboration of an educator and a strategic planner. Four Walls and a Roof, one of the original businesses was established as an Environmental Education, Training, and Seminar facilitation business. The business provided environmental and sustainability-based education programs, consulting, field trips and seminars. O'Brien Sustainability & Environment (OS&E) had been operating since 2004 as a strategic consulting business providing advice and services grounded in environmental planning and sustainable development. In late 2008, Four Walls united with OS&E to become FWR Group Pty. Ltd.
Why we bother?
Our mission is to become one of, if not, Australia’s leading facilitator and provider of sustainability consulting and related services in the emerging sustainability industry. FWR Group acts as ‘a guiding hand through the green maze’ for those exploring and implementing the values and principles of sustainability.
