Boystown Education for Sustainability Training
FWR Group have been provided with the opportunity to work in partnership with relevant BoysTown staff to develop and deliver a 'train the trainer' program which prepares BoysTown educators and youth workers for the implementation of their education for sustainability focused Certificate II program. The program will enable participants to:
understand and articulate the principles driving government policy in regard to sustainability;
understand and articulate the likely impact of developments in this area on Australian society;
explain the implications of changes in basic work practices resulting from the implementation of new legislation in regard to water and energy conservation, recycling and waste management;
identify appropriate entry level training positions for BoysTown clients in both existing and emerging green industries;
develop practical, experiential learning projects which will assist LifeWorx participants to develop appropriate skills sets;
source and integrate sustainability curriculum materials available from a wide range of sources in Australia and overseas.
Education for sustainability is an emerging but dynamic concept that encompasses a new vision of education that seeks to “ empower people of all ages to assume responsibility for creating a sustainable future.
• There is a need to refocus many existing education policies, programs and practices so that they build the concepts, skills, motivation and commitment needed for sustainable development.
• Lifelong learning, including adult and community education, appropriate technical and vocational education, higher education and teacher education are all vital ingredients of capacity building for a sustainable future.”
This vision of education emphasizes a holistic, interdisciplinary approach to developing the knowledge and skills needed for a sustainable future as well as changes in values, behaviour, and lifestyles.
